Has any one been to the Eldorado Christmas show in their show room?
We are arriving on Saturday for 3 nights, and would like to know if it is worth going to.
Also, does anyone have any tips or tidbits on gambling? Where to eat a great anniversary meal, what about happy hour specials?
Any other entertainment recommended?

Yep........we caught the Spirit of Christmas at the Eldorado on Sat. Dec. 2.
Let me be up front and say that we really love the Christmas Season so maybe we are just slightly bias. We thought the show was very good. You would not expect see this show in a Casino but they did a great job. Definitely a family show with dancers (about 16) all kinds of costumes, bright and cheery Christmas Sets and of course Santa. Overall a much better show than we expected.

As for Gambling, our favorites would be the Western Village in Sparks. Low table limits and all kinds of Slots. Day Shift Crew in Pit very friendly and helpful. Next would be the Siena, because of the 10 Times Odds on Craps. The Peppermill is where we stayed and we had reasonable success on the Craps Tables and Slots.

We did have a lousy dinner at the Peppermill Steak House.

I would recommend the Steak House at Harrahs, (Expensive), or the Steak House at the Western Village. The WV Steakhouse is rather "Glitzy" but the food is excellent and fair priced. I think they may even have a Early Bird Special.

Have Fun and leave some money for us........we return for New Years Eve.

Brings to mind the Beatles Show a couple of years ago in the same Showroom. (Wife loves the Beatles) Really a pretty good show, had the crowd into the music and then it was over. One hour right on the nose. We thought for the money (about $30 bucks) it was a rip-off. I guess the Eldorado want us in the Casino, not enjoying a decent show.

Agreed! Just the Beatles show was so very entertaining we were disappointed when it ended so soon.

No question in comparison with Las Vegas the prices in the Reno area are far more reasonable. I think Gordie Brown in Las Vegas is now about $100, Phantom of the Opera $125, with others even higher.

One of my greatest regrets is passing on a chance to go see Lou Rawls when he appeared at the Nugget in Reno in July of 2005.
It was scarcely six months later or so that he passed on. I told myself so many times to go see him, and I lost out forever.
A beatles tribute or bevy of semi-clad and attractive dancers will always be around, and some will be a better value than others, but certain shows are worth it, no matter how short or expensive.

Now I know this is just my opinion but one of the last great Saloon entertainers of Northern Nevada is ending his long career this comming Feburary. I just recieved a notice that Danny Marona would be preforming his last show on Feb. 18, 2007 in the Eldorado Showroom.

I can't tell you how many times we have seen Marona, but I first caught the guy at the old Lions Den at the MGM in 1986. He was so damn funny that many were (seriously) rolling on the floor laughing. (Well maybe a few Gin's were partially to blame)

We used to plan our trips around Marona engagements and were especially fond of his Midnight Shows in the Caberet at the High Sierra (Horizon). Some of these Midnight Shows would go 3 hours or more.

Marona, while not a great singer, certainly had a decent voice, could play the hell out of a piano, and when he was "ON" tell endless stories and jokes. Everyone, from young to old had a great time.

Marona has cut back a great deal apparently with some serious health issues, but dang even a few years ago, there were few better in giving the audience a terrific effort.

I remember just few years ago Marona was in the big showroom at Harrahs Tahoe. The place was full with mostly 20 something age crowd, and when Marona came on stage we could hear the grumbling about his grey hair and age. I have to tell you by the end of the Show the 20 something crowd was on its feet, and screaming for Marona to stay around. Yep.........he was that good.

Now, I have to see if I can find a way to Reno for "Marona's Last Laugh".

Dang it.........................this getting old really sucks!
