As most who have read my posts here know, I make frequent visits to Reno. In 2006, I visited Reno fourteen times, usually for three or four days at a time.

Unfortunately, wrongdoing in the gaming industry is more common than most casino patrons realize, particularly in Nevada where in my opinion there is no legitimate government oversight of casinos. Most wrongdoing is covered up by powerful interests -- the casinos themselves and their compliant minions in the Gaming Control Board. Though most victims of casino wrongdoing are professional advantage players like me, not the average patron, mistreatment can happen to anyone. It is to Reno's credit that most of its casino personnel behave better than their Las Vegas counterparts. However, bad things can and do happen in Reno, too. I post about these things in the hope that the average casino patron becomes more aware of bad things that can happen, and becomes more aware of how to handle himself or herself when casinos behave badly.

I created a non-commercial blog that might be of interest to the folks here. If posting the link to it is considered inappropriate, I'm sure the moderators will delete this post, and hopefully will accept my apology. But I think I have contributed enough worthwhile information to this forum that I might be granted a little leeway.

Please feel free to post comments here and/or at my blog:

Thanks for reading.

Hi Bear,

I looked at your blog and there's no problem linking to it on this board. You're doing a great job on it.

I too enjoyed reading Bear's blog. I was quite surprised about a few things I saw, like the "$15 check-in" con game going on at the Golden Nugget, how the games at the Grand Sierra have changed, and what the new Station Casino(s) might bode for the future of Reno. Certainly a wakeup call for me.

I thought that it was a very interesting article. I get into the situation where I have some high denomination chips and I will now be very hesitant to take any of the $5000 and up away from the table. I usually just take $1000's so I can use them at other casinos when I buy in. The $5000 are too big for other casinos to take them.

Well written article, and hopefully the corporate casino structure does not promote abuse in this regard, but with the problems at Wynn's, it seems that the bottom line is the only thing they look at. There is so much more to long term success than that bottom line.

It works fine for me. Really some interesting information. I do not play in that league, but it all applies. I was just reading about the report on the Golden Phoenix. It ends with a - I give it a year before it goes Bankrupt. I think you were really close on your timing! Very Happy
