Finallized our March Madness plan. Stayng at Peppermill Wed and Thurs ($29 per nght), then moving over to Harrahs for Friday night ($70) Sounds like Bama, Dave, and Neal wll be at Cal Neva, but just found out the Peppermill is having a "March Mania" event, their wedsite states:
Celebrate March Mania at our Hoops Hysteria Party! Catch all the college basketball excitement for FREE in the Naples Ballroom. We have three 10' screens and dozens of 65" screens for viewing, which makes every seat the best in the house! Betting Stations and a stadium-style snack bar will be available for your convenience.
Sounds interesting, we're going to give it a try. |

Wow that sounds pretty cool. We will definitely check it out.
Thanks for the update.
And Bama is again on the good side of the bubble...but for how long.

March Madness is here guys! Bama sorry about your boys, they got hosed. Georgia getting a ten smaeed was crazy. These match-ups this year look interesting, there appears to be a lot of possible upsets. It looks like me and my boys might head down on Wednsday and checkout the Peppermill on thursday morning before heading down to the best sportsbook in Reno the Cal Neva. Is anyone else checking out the thing at the Pep? |

Hey Neal,
Yeah I am trying to figure out how we are going to fit that in. We leave Wed. night and will be at the Eldorado. I also was hoping to check out the Grand Sierra as the last time I was there it was a pretty nice set up. Not sure what they do for March Madness though and it doesn't say anything on the website.
Really some fun match ups to watch as always. So excited to come down as it has been a LONG two year since I was able to do this. |

madness is here I think. I tried several places for rooms for weekend and they were full. Can't get home to OR because of snowy roads so it's back to Laughlin for 10 free room nights plus MANY perks, even a $100 meal plus Asleep at the Wheel concert.
BTW, I am at the Grand Sierra and walked thru the sports book last night and it seemed quiet and nothing special was observed.
On the upside, I spent a pleasant evening with John. |

I am heading to Reno Friday. It is kind of a last minute decision, and it sure looks like a lot of the Reno people will be in town. I am staying at the Peppermill (again). It looks like a big storm is heading in, so I guess we will be slip/ sliding into town. I will check out the special March Madness room at the Peppermill too.
Hey Jerry- remember that $100 free dinner we had in Laughlin? The weather will be a lot nicer down south- in the 80's. |

A little snow and poor Jerry's stuck. Forced to return to Laughlin and make camp for 10 more days waiting for those mountain passes to clear. Good luck Jerry! Try to make the best of it (with a few 4OAKs or a Royal or two)! |

Yes, life can be trying at times. But we all adjust and make the best of things. As I sit in the cozy Laughlin library in my brand spankin' new Chili Cookoff shirt, I feel for those of you in the snow.
Swede, I remember well the meal. Since you will not be here to help my wife and I spent the C-note, we will likely "pig out" on live lobsters at the Edgewater's Steak House. That is the only really good restaurant on these two properties.
Snow is still forecast for next ten days on my route home.
BTW, on St Patty's day, i hit my THIRD royal on this trip. It was only $500 bucks but it covered what I lost in my evening with John.
Dave, I wish you and the cat lady were here to enjoy this 90 degree weather.
More royals in sight. I can feel them. Are there any holidays this week?
The three were on two "eves' plus St Ptty's Day. |

Got back from Reno Saturday night. Ugly drive home, needed chains from Donner Lake to Gold Run (45 miles), with long lines at the chain check point. Spent Thursday watching the games at the Pep. The special "March Mania" event in the ballroom had a nice set up with lots of T.V.s, no lines at the bettng windows, but the crowd was light, and it did not have the vibe I was expecting. They did give out free T-shirts, and were very generous with the drink tickets, maybe too generous, we were hurting the next day. Friday we moved to Harrah's and moved between Harrah's and Cal Neva to watch the games. We like Harrah's because to the ability to watch the games and bet the ponies, but the book was pretty dead, and no sound on the T.V.s. Cal Neva had a good crowd as usual, and set up some projection T.V.s in what use to be the horse racing parlor. Did fairly well on my bets, but got hurt with the Gonzaga loss Saturday.
The trip ended with some excitment when a pick up lost control on the wet road at was hit by a semi, The pick up shot across the freeway, twenty feet in frot of me, before hitting the guard rail and flipping over. Thankfully no one was hurt. We stayed at the scene and gave witness statments to the CHP. |

Hey Mike,
Glad your back. Sounds like you had a great time. Man alive there was some fun games to watch! I just got back as well and will have to post a trip report. We stayed at the Eldorado. Had such a good time. I am sure we crossed paths as we spent a lot of time watching the games at the good old Cal Neva. We tried as hard as we could to drink up all of their beer but I don't think we were successful. Fun fun!!

I just got back too. Wow what an adventure in travel over I-80. I was set to drive home Sunday and found the pass was closed---- all day. By 4 PM the decision was made to make it a bonus vacation day. The Peppermill gave me an extra free night, so that was not so bad. I can think of a lot of worse places to have to spend an extra night. |

I concur. Next time, don't wait until 4pm to make that decision!
'Round the time you wake up from Saturday's action is the time to make the call. |
