I see the left open the area for the bums with the wheelchairs to sit over the trench.

And I hope they don't get any maintenance calls, as I can imagine the mechanics being at the Nugget Diner during the competition.

I'll certainly give them credit for thinking "outside the box" just to use a lame and hackneyed cliche - that should make for some good imagery, there...Swede's on the right track; who could possibly turn away from that kind of imagery???

But would a Little Nugget/ Harrah's split be possible from the arch?

At least 10 USBC championships tournaments would come to Reno from 2019-2030 under a deal being considered by the Reno City Council, the Reno Gazette-Journal reported.

At least 10 United States Bowling Congress championships tournaments would come to Reno from 2019-2030 under a deal being considered by the Reno City Council, the Reno Gazette-Journal reported in this story.

The deal for the tournaments is part of a proposal that would dedicate most of the revenue from a $2 hotel room tax that started last year for improvements to the National Bowling Stadium, the paper said.

No one could immediately be reached at USBC for comment.

Some improvements already have been made to the Stadium, including a satellite Hall of Fame on the ground floor.

The Reno Gazette-Journal said other planned improvements included a new video projection system, squad room renovation and expansion, demolition of existing stadium seating and replacement with flexible space, a new sports bar, and refurbishing the exterior by 2018.

I’ve been told the sports bar is going where Lane 81 is right now, with Mike Jasnau’s instruction area heading to the ground level to be part of a new set of 10 to 12 lanes being installed where there has been a restaurant.

The main 78 lanes also are going to be replaced again at the Stadium.

Earlier this month, I wrote this blog about plans for a stadium at South Point in Vegas that would be used for USBC tournaments.

It is embarrassing to type, but the outdoor finals of the US Women's Open bowling tournament was a complete disaster. Three days worth of dusty winds have rendered the lane surface almost unplayable.

Five days of competition inside the National Bowling Stadium and the five finalists averaged almost 215. Tonight, after the first three matches, no game has been over 182, and the third game ended 150-148. These are the best women bowlers in the world, battling for thousands of dollars ($40K for first and $20K for second) and the event is a travesty.

The worst part is that this isn't Reno's fault... that belongs to the Bowling Proprietors Association of America (BPAA) who hosted this tournament. No wind studies were done, so consideration was given to debris on the playing surface or even the vibrations from competing OVER THE TRENCH.

From what I hear from friends that are actually watching the finals on Virginia Street, the venue is amazing. The lane installation looks spectacular, and people are watching all around... even from Fitzgerald's parking garage.

Too bad they are all watching a poorly executed train wreck.

Linked here is a blog from a Madison (WI) bowling writer, breaking down the deal that the United States Bowling Congress has with the Reno/Sparks CVB to continue bringing the National tournament (for both the men and women) back to Reno through 2030.

Lots of great stuff in here, including the amount that USBC pays per game at the National Bowling Stadium, the amount of guaranteed money that USBC gets, and the number of room nights that the USBC in turn guarantees to RSCVB.

Remember that $2 fee that gets tacked onto all rooms in downtown Reno? Much of that goes into funding a multi-million dollar remodel of the National Bowling Stadium.

With this year's tournament set to start tomorrow, the USBC produced a 30 minute kick-off show.

The first 10 minutes or so is a really nice tour of the entire stadium, though emphasis was on the current remodel (there are two more phases of the remodel that will happen during this offseason). Do note that the show is geared towards serious bowlers that will be participating, so the back half (or more) of this show is heavy into tech-talk, lane patterns, game strategy, etc. I won't be offended if you turn that part off.

So lets all take a few minutes to review what JD's $2 per night goes towards...

FYI, Harrah's was putting the bowling alley back together in their
east casino last weekend when I was there.

JD has single-handedly affirmed Reno's ability to host the finest bowling competitions on earth - keep on handing out those $2 tips, JD!

And MJames, good to see that the biggest little city will keep on trying to please the good bowlers of the USA....

The Reno City Council has approved a raise the per-bowler fee the Reno-Sparks Convention & Visitors Authority pays the USBC from $20 to $30 for the 2016 Open Tournament.

Look for the $2 per night room surcharge to go up a bit, and to also spread to the outlying Grand Sierra, Peppermill and Atlantis properties.
