I wish them luck....a LOT of luck.
When I was down the first week in October, they had completely gutted all four or five upstairs floors. No windows, doors or sheet rock. Bare bones down to concrete walls and floors and open to the weather.
But I could not even peek into the main floor where the casino used to be.
There is an alley just to the North (I walked that alley in the daytime) and a very rough former motel (now a weekly rental) on the North side of that alley. I wonder how far bed bugs can crawl? Anyone see the "Dog Poo Park" just behind the soon to be the new, "Gang Graffiti Wall"? They might want to add a few strands of razor wire on that wall.
Is the free food handout still nearby? |

I wish them success as well. I've been driving by regularly to observe the progress and it looks like they are coming along nicely. They recently painted the building and today I noticed the first new windows installed on the upper floors. RGJ has another article with more details (although they restrict access after several unsubscribed visits):
http://www.rgj.com/story/money/business/2015/12/03/3rd-street-flats-opening-downtown-reno/76698862/
And here's their own web site:

I've also noticed a lot of recent activity at the Virginian Tower, certainly much more than at other Siegel properties which all seem to be stalled. First they were just removing the casino façade out front, but this week I noticed new street level entry doors and that floor being opened up and cleaned out. Siegel's other properties seem to be more low rent oriented, but time will tell. |

"Retail space on the ground floor" - well, I guess we're not getting another casino...oh, well. Still, I commend them for putting the property to some use!
JD, we'll have to go around the corner to see if the food handout continues...I remember vividly in my early Reno days, stumbling around in the morning hours after an all-night casino hop, and walking past the line for that food handout...it was a good way to remind myself that there had to be limits to one's fun!
I wish the new King's reign well... |

I miss the Virginian. Got some big wins there on Wheel of Fortune machines and Quartermania's. |

That ought to be a "Themed" machine - "Allan Quatermania and the lost city of Gold", or something... |
