I called the reservation line and asked about the $250 room value and after providing them with my players card # they immediately cut me off and asked when I was looking to stay. I told them my 3 nights (2/28 - 3/3), and after about 5 minutes of listening to some ambient mouse clicking the lady responded with 'I would like to invite you to stay with us complimentary for all three nights'.
Almost couldn't believe it! Snap-accepted their offer. Only on the hook for resort fees, or at least that was in the standard language on the e-mail received. I got 2 free nights at ElDo last year and got charged $0, so I'm hoping for the same deal this time. This 11th hour offer saved me $250 for the rooms I already had booked at ElDo - still kinda weird that ElDo didn't send me offers.
Last trip I barely put in any play at SL, and I only make 1 trip to Reno each year. I played enough $10 BJ and 25c VP at ElDo to get upgraded to their gold card, but definitely not a high roller by any means. Only thing I can think of is that they guy who was with me with bets $100-$200 a hand and doesn't use a player card, so maybe they are using me to lure him back |
My offer says that too. 2 nights valued at $250.00
Thats great they are giving you 3 nights.. I am not sure where we will spend our nights next trip. Its gonna be so hard to break away from the Peppermill.. We have several options. I just dont want to pay resort fees as i am used to not paying them at the Peppermill.
I was going to suggest maybe emailing a host at the Eldorado to see if you even have any offers. I know you used to be able to log in online to view them, but since the merger i am not sure if you can. |

That is a good idea, although I have never stayed at SL so I'll give them a try.
Any idea if the $20 trick works there? |

In all my years going to Reno, i have never had to do the $20 trick. I play enough that my host gives us a great room. I really cannot say. |

Not really relevant to the OP, but since is kinda the only thread still active - what are some things to do in Reno that you can't do most other places. Definitely hitting up that gong-golf driving range at CSR and the party pit at the calneva on saturday night. Any other unique experiences within 10 miles of downtown? |

The Bill Harrah car museum is really great, can easily spend 2-3 hours there minimum. Right downtown.
Not down town, but I really enjoy an afternoon at Virginia City. Best Bloody Mary is at Bucket of Blood Saloon.
If you are looking for a dining option, the Steak House at Harrahs is a trip down memory lane to actual fine dining. Not cheap, but excellent steak and ceasar salad mixed table side. Dining how I remember it in the 70's growing up, and you don't find anymore.
those are some of my Reno experience things that one really doesn't find somewhere else. |

I had been either Gold or Gold+ at Eldorado for 20 years. Last year is when things changed. My host no longer sends me the comped room offers. And the SL still has David Fox running things, which means if you played the good video poker paytables, you'd no longer get decent offers. Actually never got much from them anyway.
Ironically, I now get better treatment from the Peppermill and Atlantis. So, until the One club loosens up, which I doubt, they'll no longer get my play. I'll also be checking out the Grand Sierra, since they've recently improved their vp. Besides, staying at the Pepp and Atlantis gives me the best rooms in town, and puts me closer to a day trip to Tahoe. I'll take the bus downtown for restaurants and Aces games. |

The Peppermill has always treated us well. After my friend loosing her ass, and me playing the same level but getting my free play offers dropped from $250 to $100...Im out! They also bumped me down from Platinum to Gold. There's other places that will hook me up im sure. We just didn't get much play elsewhere so the offers right now aren't much.
I have heard GSR does give good offers though. I only earned 65 tier points at Atlantis and they are sending me room offers so i at least have an in. I just hope the comps add up quick there. I reached out to a host at SL so i at least now have a contact there and she said she would at least upgrade us to a superior room...Wont compare to the Tuscany Veranda Suites but how much time do you really spend in the room? Not much. We just need a change... |

Well, since this seems to be the Eldo thread.... even if a little off topic:
from KOLO:
RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - Reno and Sparks Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting at the Eldorado Resort Casino in downtown Reno late Thursday morning.
Sparks Police say there are no outstanding suspects and the scene is secure. Police closed off the streets surrounding the casino.
Sparks Police, investigating the case per officer-involved shooting protocol, say Reno Police were investigating the report of a robbery in downtown Reno about 10:45AM February 23, 2017. The report was in the area of West Street and Commercial Row. Police chased a suspect reported to be armed into the nearby Eldorado, where circumstances led to officers shooting and killing the suspect. No officers or bystanders were hurt.
(Note: West @ Commercial is where "China Diner" is. 1/2 block South of the new "3rd Street Flats" remodel of the old King's Inn)
No information has been released regarding the person who was shot.
Police say the Eldorado mezzanine area is closed to the public during the investigation, but the rest of the property is open for normal business.

What's the best place downtown to get comped premium cocktails. I'm talking premium craft cocktails, top-shelf booze, maybe a VP bar. Happy hour cocktail places too. |

Just got back from my Reno trip yesterday. Surprisingly, SL did not start me at the lowest card level (Bronze), they started me at the next card level up, Silver. I just posted a trip report, so head on over there for more details. |

Question for frequent gamblers<
I probably take 1 gambling trip per year, usually 3 nights. I play mostly blackjack, for 4-8 hours a day. $10 - $20 per hand. Some craps $5 pass line, full odds and 2 come bets full odds.
I do belong to players clubs. I usually stay downtown, and spend my time between circus circus, silver legacy, el dorado and cal neva. If I am losing or not enjoying the experience, I move to another casino.
I have never been solicited for hotel offers or a host.
If one is a big enough gambler, do they just approach you? I am just curious if I am missing offers by not seeking these out.
I have a trip planned for April 6-9. Ironically, the best hotel price is Harrahs, but I typically don't enjoy playing there.
any advice or thoughts are appreciated. |

Im suprised you dont get any offers if you play with your cards. You do give them your card when you sit down dont you? If not this could be why you dont get any offers. If you have gambled at Harrahs and have a players card, i suggest logging into the total rewards site, and then search for room rates. Often even though you dont show offers, Harrahs will offer you free rooms or discounted rooms.
I am a slots player so i don't really know what type of play is needed when you are strictly a card player. I have always seeked out hosts myself. I have been going to the Peppermill for 15 years and i only play slots. If you dont play much at one place typically and spread your play out, its hard to get a host to comp you up front if you don;t really have much play there. |

Yah, give the slot club people your mailing address and email, I'm setting here looking at about an inch of mail offers from Laughlin, Reno, Tahoe. and I don't
bet anything over 5$ on tables. I Get a bunch of free room offers plus freeplay. |

thanks for the input. I always give my players card to dealers
Total Rewards did give me a room much cheaper than anywhere else.
Before I found this forum, I just assumed I wasn't a big enough gambler. Also thought that maybe I spread my gambling around too much to get the kind of attention that deserves rooms. During my trip in April I will see if I warrant a host. |
