Siren!
Oh I feel seen with that comment about the escalator at SL. TOTALLY!
But here's mine:
Sitting at Roxy's with that first (of a "few") martini's, looking over the fountain. When I sit there, I just feel super relaxed and content. My friends say it's a noticeable sigh and my demeanor just rests. |

Walking in that front door of the CalNeva is always a “Welcome Home Dave” moment for me. Then, tasting that first beer at anyone of those favourite bars (they are all my favourite) is that moment when I truly settle in and really know I’m there! |

Ok have to add another. Last time we visited (soooo long ago it feels), I sat at the bar at Louis' Basque Corner (this is actually our first stop on most of our trips) and the bartender (who's name escapes me, but is always there) says, "Oh yea I remember you. You're here around the winter, like right after the new year. Oh, I remember you." and proceeds to talk about our last visit. Talk about a moment of "ahhhhhhhh".
But BC Dave, that beer at Cal Neva? I can taste that as well! |

The car ... (My 1981 Corolla) Quite the chick magnet eh?
The trip ... (Somewhere near Alturus)
And the destination (Needs no further introduction!)

In days of yore, while walking from the Cal Neva to the Comstock, one might get drawn in by the colorful and cool neon lights of the Riverboat hotel and casino. Here's a daytime pic of this long forgotten (and short lived) place.
I stitched two prints together to create this image
Such a bland looking spot now ... https://goo.gl/maps/gDtZCCmEUVndf1en6

Downtown along Arlington Ave with the Colonial Motor Inn and Casino, decorated for Christmas, on the left. This would be somewhere around 1990.

So glad this place has survived and prospered. They've remodeled, built new towers, added on to the casino and added great restaurants. This pic comes from a ways back in time too. That cool neon sign is long gone.

Playing around in my graphics program. From an old postcard ...
Here's a copy of the postcard ...
And that postcard was a hand coloured B&W photo that, originally, would have looked something like this ...

Great historic photos. I've been following ThisSideOfReno on Instagram a lot and he's always got some great historic stuff. |

Oh I hear ya, BC Dave, I really miss Fitzgerald's too. Although Lucky Lane was always Unlucky Lane for me. I enjoyed meals at Molly's Garden restaurant and there were some tables in there where you could view out to the casino while you were eating. Good times at the ole Fitz! |

Lucky lane was never lucky for me either. Always meant to try Molly's, but never made it past the buffet. "Lord Fitzgerald's". Breakfast there was something like $3.99 and it was pretty decent. It was set up in a showroom.
If you were a cunning cheapskate like me you could show your out of state I.D. at Harold's and Fitzgerald's and get $5 in dollar tokens - enough for breakfast and a tip! |

Ok, I'm going against the current here: I was never a fan of Fitz! It felt too packed in for my taste and I was never, ever lucky there. |
