Watched this video this morning, it's some of the most recent Reno video I've seen. It's not a glossy positive ad for Reno, more of one person's experience but shots of SL CC, Peppermill. The Harrahs footage is sad to me, but still interesting.

Thank you for posting this video. Nice to see some recent footage.
Silver Baron Lounge is calling my name! I so miss Reno. Sad to see all these places empty. Understandable of course with the pandemic but still tough to see. I hope these places survive the pandemic.
I'm still planning a 2021 4th quarter visit to Reno. It's my sabbatical year at my job so I have an extra month off. And since a bucket list cruise I had originally planned for my sabbatical (long before the pandemic hit) was of course cancelled because of the pandemic, I've been trying to come up with an alternate long vacation.
Presuming I am vaccinated by Fall 2021, my new plan is a trip to the American Southwest. I'm already in the preliminary stages of planning it. My adventure would start by flying from Seattle to Las Vegas and rent a car. Will only be there 2 or 3 nights so not planning much gambling there. Since this is my sabbatical year I really want to go to some places I've never been or places I really want to go back to (and Vegas is not one of those). So instead of a lot of gambling in Vegas I will go to Hoover Dam and Valley of Fire State Park. Never been to either of those places (have already been to Red Rock Canyon outside of Vegas if someone was going to suggest that). Maybe catch a show too depending on who's there.
After Vegas, heading to Zion National Park (never been there). Then to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon from there (have been to the South Rim before but not the North Rim). Then after several days in those places will go down to Sedona where I have only been once before but would love to go again (note to self - try to win a huge slot jackpot so I can afford a second home in Sedona)! After Sedona, drive down to Phoenix where I will fly to Reno and stay several nights (by this time I won't have been to Reno for 2 years so screw my usual 3 nights, I plan to stay for 5 or 6 nights this time!!!). Then fly back home to Seattle from Reno. The entire trip would be about 3 weeks total.
Anyway, if this all works out I will have an epic trip report! Fingers crossed. |

Quite an interesting video Zydeco. Excellent video quality - he must have quite a good camera. Too bad this fellow didn't see Reno a few years back (or maybe a few decades). An interesting fellow too - he seems to know a bit more about fashion than I do. Too bad that he concluded that this trip to Reno would be his first and LAST. (capitals his).
No one has yet commented on another recent video that I linked to a few days ago, so I'm going to shamelessly promote it again here. It was made by a Reno resident who is working on a movie (or maybe a book) about the Mapes Hotel and Casino (closed in 1982) and it's history. Lots of great pics of Reno of yore set to a bittersweet country song. Watching it, I definitely was getting all misty eyed. See it here.
Apparently he put the video together on his phone. That blows me away - it's really well done!
Seahawk, your planned Mega-Vacation sounds like one for the books. I certainly hope the vaccination program, both here in the Great White North and stateside, kicks into a higher gear soon. Normal life (going out, making plans, vacations, etc) is going to be quite a treat when it resumes. |
