I see one major flaw in the Peppermill's site: they didn't hire me to build it.

Is it just me, or does the site become bland when you scroll down? When it first opens at a screen resolution of 1024 x 768, it looks great - full of color and interest. Now, scroll down a screen and it's gone. I use a screen resolution of 1440 x 900, and it also works well until I scroll down.

Yeah I noticed that "blankness" too. I have an Apple iMac G5 with a 17" widescreen monitor and it does the same thing. Man, they should've just called you! Where I really saw a bunch of "blankness" was scrolling around through the restaurant menus... I also don't know about those "opening curtains" - although the room is nice (I guess this may be one of their new rooms?) the whole thing just looks kind of "faked". Only other thing I noticed was that the links that show the casino floor maps are broken, and that their reservations system still takes a long time to access (at first I just thought it was my dial-up account but it does the same thing at the office).

Hey, maybe we should call them and point all this out, and we can all get comps!

"RENO - Reno's hotel rooms are a bargain hunter's delight - and the travel industry's dismay."

"Hotel operators say return guests expect a bargain in Reno.

But the head of the Reno-Sparks Convention & Visitors Authority says they're selling themselves short.

Ellen Oppenheim said visitors who see high-rise hotel rooms priced at motel rates may wonder what they're getting themselves into.

The authority gets about 80 percent of its operating budget from its share of county room taxes. It uses the taxes to advertise the region to travelers and conventions in hopes of increasing tourism.'

"Reno has undervalued rooms," said Bill Hughes, marketing operations director at Peppermill. "We can do more as far as rates go. I think we've gotten smarter about that."

Oppenheim said the traditional casino model has changed, but Reno is behind the trend.

"If you look at Las Vegas, 15 years ago, rooms were a loss leader there, as well," she said. "Now, they have moved to a model where every element of the business is a profit center. And their gaming is just as successful, maybe more successful than ever."
