Qcumber I also have not stayed there, but will be staying there for the first time next month (Mar. 14-19).

Here's a site where you can find out a little info about the CN rooms, as well as other hotels in Reno.

http://www.cheapotravel.com/reno/index.php

My understand is that the CN rooms are clean, but very standard. That suits me fine because I'm not planning on spending much time in the hotel room anyway. I'm anxious to see if this visit, in addition to being rated, will result in future discounts/comps if I decide to come back.

I too enjoy playing at CN. I enjoy both the blackjack and video poker.

Best of luck to you Q. Very Happy

I've stayed there 3 or 4 times and have been pretty happy with my stays. They use to have 2 hotels, one attached to the casino, and another across the street (the old Onslow Casino.) They closed the one that was attached, and are only using the one across the street. We usally park in the casino parking lot, and lug our bags across the street, but I think there is parking on the 3rd or 4th floor of the hotel building. Each time I have stayed, the front desk staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms are on the plain side, much like the Fitz. The hotel faces east/west, so the view is not quite as nice as the Fitz. I read the review on "Cheapo Reno" and it's basically dead on. My advice is to not set your expectations too high, and I think you will be happy with your stay.

Hope that helps,
Mike

Thanks for the review, MustangMike. Next month will be my first visit there so I got good information from your review. One thing that CheapoReno said that I didn't think was quite right...they said the CN hotel was the old Nevadan, and I thought in the back of my mind that it was the old Onslow so thanks for clearing that up for me. It's also nice to know that the rooms will be in reasonably good shape even though there's not much of a view.

Does anyone know why they closed the Virginian side of the hotel, connected to the Cal Neva? I used to stay on the top Suites and they were quite nice. The views were pretty good too. I think that Cal Neva should get out the hotel business, and stay in the casino business which did them well for so many years. This corporate management is killing the Cal Neva, and I have noticed a marked decline in the type of games and the odds they give. I used to really enjoy having a go at them even though it was a little dirty and such, but now, if the odds are the same, I will go to a place that gives better comps for my play.

They didn't own it. They were renting the building and the lease expired. The owners wanted too much for a renewal (might have been thinking they could force the CalNeva into buying the building but that's just my speculation) so the Cal Neva let it go.

Thanks for the info. The old Virginian will finally be torn down or something, and I am sure that will not be what the owners wanted. I think that the spread of casinos downtown will no be going in that direction anytime soon.

Well, I guess they could always turn it into a homeless shelter, it is a shame that all those rooms are unused.
